The Real Apocalypse: Swine Flu as Bio Terrorism?

Ok, well, I'm not freaking out like everybody else...but this thing looks pretty serious. Do I think it's the end of the Human Race? Hell no...maybe it's only the beginning...

Could this be a bio terror attack on the world? How does a swine flu mix with an avian flu (from various countries, mind you) and then combine with Human viruses in the natural world? All I'm saying is I'm skeptical.

How do people that have had no contact with pigs become infected?

And for the big kicker, during a press conference, Dr. John Carlo, Dallas Co. Medical Director, described this new strain of swine flu as being "cultured in a laboratory". Watch the video here. Slip of the tongue?

Film Review: Otis

Film: Otis (2008)

Otis is supposed to be a horror "comedy". Something of a satire or parody of torture flicks such as Saw or Hostel. I found this film absurd not in a funny way but in a way that it was supposed to be funny when clearly there was nothing really funny about it. It would be absurd to think that it was.

Otis is the story of a big ol' teddy bear of a sociopath who abducts a girl and imprisons her with the intent to rape and kill her. The girl's family decides to take matters into it's own hands after the FBI seems too busy looking like hot shots.

Horror comedy can be done well. Take Shaun of the Dead or Army of Darkness. Both movies take a horror situation (supernatural/nonexistent monsters) and makes light of the situation with campy characters and such. Something that seems easily accomplished. Otis, on the other hand, takes an all too real situation such as being abducted, raped, and tortured by a sociopath all too lightly. It was seriously hard to laugh at the situation. The attempts at comedy were feeble and forced. The idea that we were supposed to nuzzle up to Otis the psycho just seemed impossible. Nobody would say, "AWWW, Micheal Myers is just so darn cute!" would they?

When the parents and brother of the abducted girl go vigilante the movie takes a turn into Home Alone territory (which is funny as how Daniel Stern, one of the robbers from said movie plays the father in Otis). Yes, imagine Home Alone with gore. This part I must say was fun and entertaining.

However, it doesn't excuse the bulk of the film...especially the ending. two blood drops, please.

The Real Apocalypse: Bird Flu Pandemic

First the good news: bird flu is becoming less deadly. Now the bad: scientists fear that this is the very thing that could make the virus more able to cause a pandemic that would kill hundreds of millions of people.

This paradox – emerging from Egypt, the most recent epicentre of the disease – threatens to increase the disease's ability to spread from person to person by helping it achieve the crucial mutation in the virus which could turn it into the greatest plague to hit Britain since the Black Death. Last year the Government identified the bird-flu virus, codenamed H5N1, as the biggest threat facing the country – with the potential to kill up to 750,000 Britons. Read on...

Apocalypse Ketchup...

Post Apocalyptic film, Experiment 7, is still in production however you can view stills from the film here. Here's the synopsis: The story concerns Dr. Felix Copper, a scientist in a postapocalyptic world attempting to find a cure for the radiation poisoning that has blighted the planet. He runs into a couple of survivalists and then a supermodel-turned-weapons expert, and together they battle vicious mutants to try to save mankind.



Eli Roth (Hostel) wants to make a huge apocalyptic film in the vein of Cloverfield and such! I'd be down for that! Read an interview with him here.

Ditching had it's world premiere recently at the Belfast Film Festival...When will it be available to view here in the states...i dunno, it sounds kinda cool. here's the synopsis: Northern Ireland, the future: in a post apocalyptic landscape of decaying towns and primitive technology, two people set out on a journey. Ulster has become a depopulated, feudal and dangerous wilderness where people have forgotten the past and are confused about the ruins that surround them. They distract themselves with improvised ceremonies and games but feel threatened by a world they do not understand. What will await the travellers at the end of their journey?

Remember the viral video I posted not too long ago with the dumpster falling from the sky? Well we can all rest easy now. We know what it's for. Here's a follow up viral video that explains everything. If you're still scratching your head after watching this just go here and it'll all make sense.

It's been reported that George Romero will bring us more dead! He's signed up to publish two original "Dead" novels that incorporate his "universe of the dead" (is that a movie title or what?)....how exciting!!!






Tormented is a new movie involving a dead dude coming back to life to exact his revenge on the bullies that killed him. It's got a bit of some supernatural qualities that tends to bug the hell out of me but it's worth mentioning. Here's the synopsis: "Justine Fielding is the gorgeous head girl of her plush suburban grammar school, Fairview High. She has just won a place at Oxford University when in-crowd hunk Alexis asks her out on a date. All seems perfect ... except that Alexis and his circle of friends aren't quite as good as they look. Led by tormentor-in-chief Bradley, the clique’s 'too cool for school’ veneer hides a pack of inventive and merciless bullies who find it vastly amusing to persistently tease anyone they consider a worthless loser.

Their main target, Darren Mullett, knows what his classmates did last summer. They bullied him to death. The overweight, asthmatic nerd was so relentlessly victimized by their cruel taunts, website intimidation, and 'happy slapping' mobile phone recordings he committed suicide. But being dead allows Darren to finally find the courage to stand up for himself. Emergency vehicles show up to the on scene location of the Silent Night, Zombie Night shoot during some confusion. I can only imagine the thoughts of the paramedics as they arrive to find zombies milling around! Ha! Speaking of SNZN, you can view some stills from the movie here...And watch the trailer here. A seemingly awesome new graphic novel is currently available called The Minions of Ka. The author's are attempting to "give a brief history of how the undead orginated and continued their lineage throughout history".

Outpost 2 has secured funding to begin filming. The first film which I haven't seen yet featured the seemingly new trend of rehashing the idea of zombie Nazis.

Louisiana Tech has recently sent to the stage a play called Living Dead in Denmark which is a sequel to Shakespeare's Hamlet, featuring a zombie lord and his zombie minions taking over the world. Is this a new trend? Taking classic works of literature and injecting the walking dead? Mmmm, I likes...

The unreleased as of yet French zombie flick Mutants is making me aroused. Seriously. Look:

Over in Boston, on Easter Sunday, a zombie outbreak occurred! Ok well it was a zombie walk. Apparently people were offended. Why? Were they making fun of zombie Jesus? According to their group they were not trying to offend. You be the judge.

The movie ZombieLand has wrapped. Now, since Woody Harrelson still believes he's fighting zombies to shamelessly promote the film, we can view some images from the set. No zombies here... just apocalyptic scenery...ok, so far so good. Now let's see some zombies from the film...please?

The subsidiary of Fox, Fox Atomic, has died. This production company put out 28 Days/Weeks Later. From this story we learned that indeed there were plans for 28 Months Later, however, with Fox Atomic dead, what will happen to the sequel? Only time will tell.

If your interested in zombie books, Permuted Press has released Twilight of the Dead by Travis Adkins for free online. From what I can tell, this is the first book of a trilogy. Here's the synopsis: Five years after the dead rose a small band of survivors has taken refuge in the fortified town of Eastpointe. When a newcomer arrives claiming to know the location of the antidote to the zombie plague, it sends the town into an uproar. To retrieve this cure, a group of survivors must venture outside the relative safety of the compound's walls and into a world ruled and dominated by the flesh-eating undead. I've highlyenjoyed most everything I've read from Permuted Press zombie related, so I totally recommend this.

And finally check out this track from 400 Lonely Things. It's called The Music Box. It's from the album Tonight of the Living Dead. The dude remixed the soundtrack to NOTLD. It's interesting and ambient in nature. A bit soothing even....go here to read more about it and listen.

Who needs Terminator when you can have Terminators...wait, what?

So the production company, The Asylum, is notorious for basically ripping of huge block buster sci-fi actioners so much so that I don't quite understand how they get away with it. Here's a trailer for their latest flick, The Terminators:

Largest Recorded Zombie Walk?

On April 18th, Los Angeles may see a record breaking zombie walk during Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors! The zombie walk will also be a canned food fund raiser and blood drive. They could probably donate some organs too, but I don't think that will actually happen.

Claiming he was still in character from his recently wrapped filming of Zombie Land, he justifies attacking a photographer by claiming he was still in character from the film! Ha!

For him to even claim that it was a zombie and to mention Zombie Land is pure genius on the part of Mr. Harrelson. He got the press he was looking for...

The Pack

What's up with this French zombie/mutant explosion. It seems like I just mentioned French zombie movie La Horde two days ago...well, now it seems there is yet another french film that focuses on zombies and it actually has a very similar name to La Horde...it's called La Meute or The Pack. The Horde, The Pack. ok. I'm down with this. Here's the synopsis for La Meute: In the middle of a snowy no man's land, Charlotte picks up Max, a hitchhiker; they stop in a truck-stop restaurant, and when Max doesn't come back from the bathroom, Charlotte starts looking for him in vain. She decides to return during the night but gets kidnapped by the bartender, La Spack, who turns out to be Max's mother and needs to feed her kids, 'The pack', a bunch of blood lusting ghouls. Charlotte now faces a terrifying reality: these ghouls are already dead... and hungry. Alone and in the middle of nowhere, she quickly realizes... she's next on the menu!
