The Real Apocalypse: Swine Flu as Bio Terrorism?

Ok, well, I'm not freaking out like everybody else...but this thing looks pretty serious. Do I think it's the end of the Human Race? Hell no...maybe it's only the beginning...

Could this be a bio terror attack on the world? How does a swine flu mix with an avian flu (from various countries, mind you) and then combine with Human viruses in the natural world? All I'm saying is I'm skeptical.

How do people that have had no contact with pigs become infected?

And for the big kicker, during a press conference, Dr. John Carlo, Dallas Co. Medical Director, described this new strain of swine flu as being "cultured in a laboratory". Watch the video here. Slip of the tongue?

What do you think?

  1. I doubt this would be engineered biologically as a weapon of terrorism. There are so many other much more effective and deadly diseases one could release on a populace other than influenza. Also, there are a number of diseases that animals can contract that are easily passed on to humans who then can pass it on to other humans or animals. For example, turtles can carry salmonella, which you could contract, get sick, and then pass on to me. Bird flu and Swine flu are given those names because it is a type of flu common either with birds or swine, but that doesn't mean it is exclusive to those animals (since we can get them).

As for the remark about the disease being cultured in a laboratory, what he was referring to was the fact that the researchers who are now studying the flu strain have had to grow it (or "culture" it) in the lab. The only reason we know anything about Swine Flu is because the WHO or CDC has obtained samples and grown it in the lab to study it. I don't think he means it was originally engineered in a laboratory; rather, he probably meant the scientists had cultured some for study -- hence we know its makeup and traits.
